rdy helps communities recover faster and more equitably by working with community-based organizations to plan for disasters.
We have been hard at work this summer, and we want to show off our awesome founders! Meet the startups in Class 11 of OwlSpark and Class 2 of BlueLaunch. Our #FounderSpotlightSeries continues with rdy from Rice University BlueLaunch!
Since Houston's under-served communities haven’t been given proper disaster planning resources, rdy helps by providing basic planning and connecting community organizations with professional planers willing to offer pro-bono planning help.
I have been through 5 presidentially-declared disasters in Houston as an emergency manager and I saw first-hand how disasters disproportionately impact people with less resources. There are hundreds of professional disaster planners who want to help, but just don't know how. I finally realized that it takes a personal connection, to get people the resources they need to thrive. I believe emergency managers will be happy to work toward a more equitable response, all while building ties between community-based organizations and the corporate or governmental organizations they work for.
BlueLaunch has given me the confidence to actually try this thing, which is invaluable. This program allowed me to step back and really examine what it was that I was doing, find the faults in my plan, and correct them before they become critical. The greatest tangible benefit though has been the incredible speakers and mentors we have access to learn from.
