About OwlSpark
Launched at Rice University in 2013, OwlSpark was designed to help student founders move from idea to launch.
Through annual cohorts, the program provided hands-on mentorship, structured curriculum, and access to resources investors and operators. Founders entered at the earliest stages — often pre-revenue — and left with validated business models, clear pathways, and the confidence to keep building.

The Real Impact
Beyond the numbers, OwlSpark helped define what early-stage entrepreneurship looks like at Rice.
It created a pipeline from classroom to company, giving students a place to test ideas, learn quickly, and build alongside peers. Many founders launched their first venture through OwlSpark, while others carried the experience forward into future companies, roles, and leadership positions across the startup ecosystem
In their Words
"OwlSpark is just unparalleled to anything else I've been in....I was able to actually secure my first LOI based on introductions that I originally met in OwlSpark."
— Rima, Co-Founder
"It was exactly the support system we needed during that early phase. Being part of a cohort of fellow startup founders who are facing, or have faced, similar problems as yours, and being able to leverage their experiences is a fantastic way to learn."
— Vinay, Co-Founder
The People Who Built It
OwlSpark was made possible by a dedicated community of students, entrepreneurial leaders, mentors, subject matter experts, and alumni who supported founders at the earliest stages of their journey.
From program directors and staff to experienced founders and investors, this network contributed the time, expertise, and connections that helped each cohort succeed.
Founder Community & Ventures
OwlSpark alumni have gone on to launch and scale companies across industries — from early-stage startups to venture-backed businesses and beyond.
What Continues
Entrepreneurship at Rice Alliance continues through a broader platform supporting founders at every stage — including venture forums, startup events, and the growing innovation ecosystem at the Ion.
