Since the RBPC’s inception in 2001, 395 teams have competed. Of these, 138 or 35% are successful companies. 129 are alive and well today. Another 9 have made successful exits. An additional 12 teams continue to develop their technology and intend to launch soon.

Summary Of the 395 teams, 221 or 56% have launched. Of these, 138 or 62% are still in business or have exited successfully.
Of the 42 teams competing in 2012, 20 or 48% are already in business, and another 5 or 12% are planning to launch soon. In one year, the teams representing the 2012 competition have raised almost $7 million. 14 of the companies from 2012 have already raised over $100 thousand each.
First place winners of the last 12 competitions have raised $155 million in capital funding. In other words, this 3% of the past 395 participants have raised 26% of the $600 million.
Finalists, the teams placing 1st to 6th, have raised $311 million in funding. Thus, 18% of the companies have raised 55% of all the funding.
Over 13% of the 2012 Forbes’ list of 30 Under 30 in Energy are RBPC alums. In addition to these 4 individuals, a 5th RBPC alum was on the Forbes’30 Under 30 list for 2011. |
